    Description

The Abingdon Pottery Bird Vase #468 was made in 1939 & 1940 in various solid colors & sometimes white with a hand-decorated bird & trim in a glossy medium blue or glossy turquoise glaze.  While the in-mold number is 468, the piece was referred to as 468D when hand-decoration was done.  Both flared sides of the vase have a bird.
This vase is about 7-1/4 inches tall & 7 inches wide at the widest point at the tips of the bird's wings.  The oval top rim is about 6-3/8 inches in diameter & the oval bottom rim is about 4-3/4 inches in diameter.  It has the original gold foil Abingdon sticker on one side, although the sticker is no longer perfect as shown in the photo.  The Abingdon in a rectangle stamped mark & the impressed shape number 468 are on the bottom.   The decorator's mark is scratched into the bottom - I often wonder what my Grandmother's mark was when I find decorated pieces & whether I have any of hers in my own collection.
It is a sturdy piece, suitable for holding a floral arrangement, & in excellent vintage condition - no chips or hairlines or crazing.
